Regis Aged Care - Fremantle, WA

Client Representation

Originally known as Hillcrest and built in 1899, the area at North Fremantle consisted of a Heritage listed building that was surrounded by various wings that made up the former maternity hospital. Over the years the surrounding area had been built on and in 1978 it was converted into a nursing home.

The concept was to build a modern 109-bed aged care residency within the confines of the existing site whilst retaining much of the heritage features that made this hilltop site a landmark within North Fremantle.

The works involved the class 2 demolition and asbestos removal of much of the existing premises plus basement excavation for a new underground car park, laundry, and kitchen and delivery areas. The heritage listed main building was carefully restored back to its original form and this operates as the main admin building but also has, meeting areas, a library, café, cinema room, hairdressers, spa, private dining and quiet family areas. The original site was also built around 2 large Norfolk Pines which were carefully preserved during the demolition and subsequent build process and now form the backdrop to the rear of the sites new main Resident Activity Rooms.

The Heritage building ties into the 2 new wings that are facing onto Harvest Road and Turton Street. Harvest wing consists of 4 floors including the basement. The lower ground floor Pearse, (named after the original owner Frances Pearse) is the main dementia wing. This floor includes many areas and items to make the residents stay more pleasurable, such as a sensory wall, sensory room, outdoor purposeful wandering and activity areas. The Facility consists of 101 single en-suite rooms and 8 larger 2 room apartments. All rooms consist of individual ducted air conditioning units and have contemporary   furnishings and fittings.

All floors have central rest and sitting areas that contain entertainment hub, fish tanks and tea/coffee making facilities. They also have dining areas and patio doors leading to outside courtyard gardens and balconies. Nursing stations are centrally located along with serveries and floors also have treatment rooms, specific cleaner’s stores and dirty utility areas that ensure all staff are able to provide a high level of care to the residents at all times.

Regis North Fremantle incorporates state of the art technology and is also a 4 star green star aged care facility that ensures residents have a safe and secure environment in which to live.
